Shannel Courtney

Shannel Courtney has been a song-leader for over 20 years. Based in Nelson, he leads Mosaic, a 45 voice community choir who love to sing world music. For 10 years he was also a member of a small eclectic a cappella group called Octapella and an Afro-marimba band, Mweya, specialising in Zimbabwean dance music.

For several years he has been part of a collective of Top-of-the-South choir-leaders who organise regional community choir events including weekend-workshops and performances. He arranges songs for voices, and has always been fascinated with rhythm – the placement of sound in time – which has influenced much of his song-leading journey.
