“A Rolls Royce of a Choir”

Gale Force Gospel Choir has some Sad News...

A review by Chester:

The email entitled “Sad News” arrived in my mailbox last week - Gale Force Gospel had failed to find a new director and so March 10 would be the last night. I used to be a regular at GFG – even serving on the core group for a while but recently only managed the occasional visit.   So one last time…(hopefully not).
There were approximately 20 singers – not quite the same as the average of 47 per night over 2024 – but still enough for Nino as temporary director – (thanks Nino) – to weave his magic.

Gale Force was originally set up with Carol Shortis and she did a fantastic job – then moving to Kapiti and handing over the reins Ben who was in the choir as a bass.  Over the years GFG did many concerts and a few trips – a notable trip being to The Festival of Voices in Hobart for a week back in 2017 and then a bus trip around the south island singing at various venues and singing with other choirs.

At the end of the night on Monday, Nino gave the room a little space to reflect.  A few memories were shared and thanks to hard workers of the core group - the overall feeling was one of gratitude for a good time had.  Nino offered a little hope by saying that he might be able to get one of his ex singing pupils to take over.

As Carol once said – “Gale Force is a Rolls Royce of a choir” so lets hope it finds a new director soon to lead the way.

27th March Update.

We got an email from a committee member at Gale Force Gospel and fingers crossed there might be a new leader to hold space in this community. We wait with baited breath and all parts bound hoping for the desired outcome.
