Boost our campaign to create Musical Theatre

I'm writing to you to request some support for further develop of The Man whose Mother was a Pirate - The Musical. This is for a week or workshopping and development in 3 weeks time.

We received an incredibly positive response from our audience and reviews for our development season at the Welsh Dragon pub as part of the Wellington Fringe festival earlier this year. From this support, we are ready to move to the next stage towards the future of this production and have booked a full week of workshopping at the Hannah Playhouse in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

This is an opportunity to further develop the story, script and music alongside local artists such as a musical director, choreographer, script advisor and several musicians. We are fundraising towards the costs that help pay for the venue hire and to pay all artists living wage for their work.

I’m forwarding this to the Song Leaders' Network in the hope that with your support (small or large) we can partially fund the workshop without it being fully self-funded. After this workshop, we intend to have a full-scale production mapped out with the intention to apply to Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand for larger funding. Our plan is to have a full-scale production possible within the next two years and premiere the show in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

Any small donation can help us! The Funding Campaign will go live to the general public at the end of the week.  The first donations as part of a successful campaign are crucial and our goal is to secure 30% of our current budget in the first week to give a confident start. (People tend to donate if they see others doing so, as we are sure you know.)

Updated News 9th August

We are ready to weigh anchor.

In an incredibly short amount of time, we have reached 212% of our original target goal to fund The Man whose Mother was a Pirate week of workshoping.

Because of all of you who gave donations, you've made this week of workshops possible. Not only in supporting a brand new show but helping equitably pay artists a living wage to work at a time that is often very hard.

We will still be accepting donations towards the campaign should you want to show your support. The work will be ongoing past the workshop to make a full scale production possible.

So again, a massive thank you from James (creative producer) and myself to all for taking the time to support the growth of this show.
