Local Vocals is a community choir found in rural Southland and they have carved out a special niche in community singing that is clearly working for them.

Acapella Jude Singing Workshops started up again last week - it was a small and intimate affair, but we had lots of fun, challenged ourselves and produced some beautiful harmonies together!

This concert was about making sure that we felt as an audience connected, happy and lifted up in our spirit.

It was a rich evening of storytelling reminding us that living in love, light and community is that must have part of the puzzle of Wellington life.

Kāpiti Community Choir Leader Shona McNeil reflects on the World Choir Games journey.

This is an opportunity to further develop the story, script and music alongside local artists such as a musical director, choreographer, script advisor and several musicians. We are fundraising towards the costs that help pay for the venue hire and to pay all artists living wage for their work.

I’m forwarding this to the Song Leaders' Network in the hope that with your support (small or large) we can partially fund the workshop without it being fully self-funded. After this workshop, we intend to have a full-scale production mapped out with the intention to apply to Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand for larger funding. Our plan is to have a full-scale production possible within the next two years and premiere the show in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

We danced, laughed, shared, supported each other, explored sounds and places, and ate delicious food. We visited large cities, rural areas, a hill station but singing in Soweto and Kayelitsha touched me deeply. South Africans love their music, love their singing and the variety of songs and dances are mesmerizing
